Walking is a great way to stay healthy and has many benefits such as:
- Helps to control weight
- Builds muscles and maintains healthy bones and joints
- Improves heart and lung function
- Helps you to relax
- Reduces signs of stress and anxiety
- Gives you more energy
- Reduces high blood pressure and cholesterol
- Keeps your brain active
- Boosts self confidence
Walks are expected to last approximately 1 -1.5 hours. It is advised that you wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for the weather.
Walks will start at 11.00 a.m. am at the Trinity Active travel hub in Bridegate, Irvine unless stated as a different start point.
A number of the walks require using public transport – this has been given travelling from Irvine town centre. Please check your options for public transport with Stagecoach
28th August – Cadgers Race Course 2.7 miles
Today we will be heading up to the former race course. The walk is on surfaced paths throughout

4th September – NCN route 73 Exploration 3.2 miles
Today we are off to Dreghorn exploring the National Cycle Route 73. The route is flat and on surfaced paths although these may be muddy in places. We will return to Irvine on the bus!

11th September – Irvine Past and Present 1.4 miles
Today we will be exploring the cobbled streets and closes of old Irvine town. The paths are mostly flat, there may be some short flights of steps and the cobbled streets can be uneven to walk on

18th September – Across the River and Back Again! 1.8 miles
Today we will be crossing the river Irvine twice. The walk entirely on surfaced paths. There is one flight of steps.

25th September Kilwinning to Irvine (Garnock valley) 3.0 miles
Today we will be walking along part of the Garnock Valley from the edge of Kilwinning to Irvine town centre. The route is on surfaced paths although some may be muddy in places.
Walks starts at 11.00 am. We will meet at the bus stop after Woodmill junction and immediately after the pelican crossing on Irvine Road, Kilwinning across from the Eglinton Allotment Site.
2nd October An autumn walk at Ayrshire Central Hospital 1.5 miles
Explore the woodland in its autumn glory. The path is surfaced although there may be a short walk over a grass and mud path.

9th October Tarryholme ponds 3.0 miles
Today’s walk will take us over to the ponds beyond Tarryholme. The walk is all on surfaced paths.

16 October exploring Annick park 2.1miles
Today we are back in Dreghorn to explore some more of the paths around the River Annick. Paths may be muddy in places.

23rd October Beach Park Adventure 3.0 miles
Let’s explore more of the beach park today. The paths are surfaced throughout.

30th October – A Short Stroll at Eglinton 2.0 miles
How does the park start preparing for winter? Let’s see what signs of winter and spring to come we can find on this short walk at Eglinton. Paths may be rough underfoot and could be muddy.
Walks starts at 11.00 am. We will meet on Kilwinning Road at the bus stop after Watercut Road (entrance to Neil Brothers) This is the 1st bus stop after crossing the A78 flyover.

6th November Let’s Go to the Races 2.7 miles
Today we return to the old race course and back to town. Paths are surfaced but may be muddy in places.

13th November Wild Milgarholm 2.6 miles
Today we shall be exploring more of Milgarholm. Can we spot any of the wildlife that lives along the river. Paths are all flat and surfaced.

20th November Exploring Kilwinning 2.0 miles
Kilwinning’s abbey was once the grandest abbey in Scotland, well hidden behind the town’s main street. On today’s walk we will explore this and other parts of the historic town. The walk is on surfaced paths and pavements throughout.

27th November Corsehill Wildlife Reserve. 2.4 miles
Can we find the wildfe that makes this reserve its home over the winter months. The paths in the reserve can be uneven underfoot and may be muddy in places.

4th December Let’s Go Down to the Sea Again 2.6 miles
Let’s get some fresh sea air today on this walk down to the beach. The walk is entirely on flat surfaced paths or pavements.

11th December A Winter Walk at Ayrshire Central Hospital 1.5 miles
Let’s explore the woodland walk now the trees are bare. The walk is mostly on surfaced paths although part of the route is across a grassed field. The paths could be muddy in places.

18 December Seasonal Round the Town and Festive Cheer
Today’s walk is a magical mystery tour…..what Christmas is all about, followed by some refreshments! This walk is on surfaced paths and pavements. There may be some steps along the way.

Guide lines for walking:
- Most of the walks in the programme are on footways or surfaced paths. Some of these may be uneven and it is advised that you wear comfortable stout shoes or trainers.
- Please wear clothing appropriate to the weather, a wet weather option can also keep the wind out even if it isn’t raining
- Walkers are responsible for carrying their own water
- Walkers must complete a registration form prior to starting the walks
- If you have any medical condition that may affect you on the walk please tell the walk leader and ensure that this is noted on your registration form
- Walkers are responsible for their own medication but it must be close at hand if required on the walk
- Walkers are walking at their own risk.
- The walk leaders reserve the right to vary the route from that advertised in response to adverse weather or path conditions.
