A consultation seeks views on the three verdict system in Scottish criminal trials and, if the not proven verdict were to be abolished, whether any accompanying reforms would be necessary to other aspects of the Scottish criminal justice system including jury size, majority required for verdict and the corroboration rule

Deposit Return Scheme

The deposit return scheme will go live across Scotland on 16 August 2023, helping to recycle billions of bottles and cans every year. As part of the phased implementation, the Scottish Government is working with retailers on a voluntary basis to enable people to start returning their bottles and cans for recycling from November 2022.

Recorded Crime in Scotland: November 2021

Recorded Crime in Scotland shows that the police in Scotland recorded 18,533 crimes in November 2021. This was 9% lower than the 20,331 crimes recorded in the same month of 2020 and 8% lower than the 20,087 crimes recorded in the same month of 2019.
