The purpose of the Stevenston Christmas Lights Committee is to organise and implement the purchase, installation and delivery of the festive event surrounding the switch on of the Christmas lights every December for the local community.
In line with our constitutional responsibilities our aims are to help develop Stevenston Town Centre Christmas lights each year, including the purchase and maintenance costs attached. Secondly, to enhance relationships between local residents and business owners by creating a collaborative approach to community events resulting in strengthening community spirit. Furthermore, to promote and invest in the local economy by providing opportunities, which better the lives of its constituents, i.e. families, young people and older people.
This event is categorised into 2 strands in order to be successful. Firstly, the planning of the switch on event itself. This entails working in partnership with a wide variety of people and organisations which includes, North Ayrshire Council, Clasps, Local Businesses, community groups and volunteers to deliver a festive event that everyone can attend. Through partnership working and in line with the rising cost of living crisis, we make this event free for all. Secondly, the planning and erection of the lights itself and the purpose of this application. Working in partnership with North Ayrshire Council we are able to erect and switch on the festive lights for the town after inspections, testing and fittings have been signed off and necessary safe-guarding paperwork has been completed.
To conclude our aim is to provide free opportunities to residents during the festive period and promote Stevenston as a whole to work towards improving the local economy and strengthening community engagement. That being said, there is now costs attached to erecting the lights and have not had ample time to secure external funding, however we are working on this. Our need at present is the cost we cannot fully cover for the events itself this year.
