Hansel operate Red Rose House, an 8 bedroom bungalow in Stevenston which offers respite breaks to North Ayrshire families who are supporting loved ones with additional support needs.
The team at Red Rose House raised almost £500 to purchase materials required to transform their garden room, known as The Den, into a bright, welcoming space for the families staying overnight. Pre-decoration, The Den had been fitted out with heating and lighting, but the internal decoration has never been completed. Hansel uploaded a request for support to the wish list, asking for some voluntary time from a contractor to decorate The Den based on the ideas and input of their service users.
Clark Contracts are a construction contractor who work with North Ayrshire on a range of large projects. They got in touch around a week after Hansel’s wish was uploaded to the list to offer staff time to complete the interior decoration of The Den. Around a month later, the project had been completed and both parties have benefitted from the opportunity to work together.
Laura Allardice from Clark Contracts reflected that while the project has ” helped with fulfilling our community benefits commitments, it has also given our team members a good team-building experience, and…a sense of fulfilment.”
The wish list made it much easier to select a suitable wish…Previously we would get requests which ended up being things we were unable to deliver. The wish list allowed us to select a suitable one and therefore not let anyone down.”
The staff from Hansel were delighted with the support, with Fundraising and Communications Manager Agnes Paton saying: ”
“Could you please pass our sincere thanks on to Chris and Andy for all their help today in painting the inside of the Den at our respite centre, Red Rose House in Stevenston. It has made such a difference to see some colour on the walls and I’m sure our guests will love making the finishing touches to it with bubble lights and bean bags. We truly appreciate the support from Clark Contracts as this would have been a project that would have been on the waiting list for a long time without your support. Thanks once again for your much valued support.”
