We are a local community bowling club that has been established in the community for 40 years. Our bowling green has long been recognised as one of the most valuable assets of our club and
plays a key role in the local community. It provides opportunities not only for our members but also for the wider public in Irvine and across North Ayrshire. We regularly host competitions, open days,
and events which bring visitors to the area, encourage participation in sport, and foster social connections. Importantly, the green delivers significant health and wellbeing benefits to local residents. Bowling is a sport that is accessible to people of all ages and abilities. It promotes physical activity, supports mental health through social engagement, and helps reduce isolation, particularly among older adults. Maintaining the green to a high standard ensures we can continue to provide these benefits and extend participation opportunities to the wider community. Unfortunately, the bowling section does not have the financial resources to sustain this upkeep alone. The main club has limited asset funds and is unable to subsidise the required investment. To ensure the green remains in good condition, our immediate priority is the purchase of a specialised
iron for ongoing maintenance. This equipment, costing approximately £5,000 to £8,500, would be
solely for the purpose of maintaining the green, thereby safeguarding its use for competitions, community events, and open play days. We firmly believe that this investment would not only preserve a valued community facility but also
support North Ayrshire Council’s wider objectives around health, wellbeing, inclusion, and
community development.
We would therefore be grateful if you could consider our application for grant funding to enable the purchase of this essential piece of equipment.
