Millport Coastal Flood Protection Scheme – Community Consultation Event

North Ayrshire Council is developing the Millport Coastal Flood Protection Scheme with close community involvement.

The Council would like to update the local residents on the progress.  A Scheme Recommendation Report has been prepared which addresses technical, economic and environmental considerations and considers the additional benefits of economic regeneration of Millport.  The report recommends a preferred solution, which has been presented to North Ayrshire Council’s Cabinet.

Alongside the Flood Protection Scheme, the Council’s Economic and Development Team is also looking at the potential to develop Millport further as a key tourism destination on the Firth of Clyde. North Ayrshire Council are working on an Ayrshire Growth Deal for Marine Tourism.

The public consultation events are scheduled to take place on the following dates:

Tuesday 12th February 2019: 10:00 – 19:15

• 10.30 am                                     30-minute presentation on Flood Protection Scheme
• 11.30 am – 12.30 pm                 Community design workshop
• 3.00 – 4.30 pm                           Community design workshop
• 5.00 pm                                        30-minute presentation on Flood Protection Scheme
• 6.00 – 7.00pm                             Community design workshop

Wednesday 13th February 2019: 10:00 – 18:00

• 10.30 am                                           30-minute presentation on Flood Protection Scheme
• 11.30 am – 12.30 pm                        Community design workshop
• 3.30 – 4.30 pm                                 Community design workshop
• 5.00 pm                                              30-minute presentation on Flood Protection Scheme

The community design workshop sessions will focus on the onshore works that are required as part of the scheme.  The location, appearance, landscaping and access needs for the flood walls and other structures will be discussed.

There will be the opportunity for open discussion with the project team throughout the consultation event.

This event will take place in The Garrison, Millport, Isle Of Cumbrae, KA28 0DG.

Comments can be made on forms that will be provided at the events, online via the NAC Flooding Website (Millport Coastal FPS) or online – through the Flooding section of www.north-ayrshire.gov.uk or by post to Cunninghame House, Irvine, KA12 8EE.

Following the public consultation, all comments on the Millport Coastal Flood Protection Scheme should be submitted by 7 March 2019.

A collection box for the feedback questionnaire will be placed at Millport Library.
